The City of Northville is starting a significant roadway construction project that will impact traffic patterns near several Northville Public Schools. Families are encouraged to plan ahead, allow for extra travel time, and review detour routes to help ensure safe and timely arrival to and from school.
Project Overview
The project centers on the construction of a new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of 7 Mile Road, Sheldon Road, and Center Street. The roundabout is designed to prioritize safety for all users while improving traffic flow in this busy corridor. In addition, upgrades are planned at the intersections of 7 Mile Road/Wing Street and 7 Mile Road/St. Lawrence Boulevard.
Key improvements include:
- A concrete single-lane roundabout at 7 Mile Rd / Sheldon Rd / Center St, with separated right-turn lanes on the east and south legs.
- Asphalt resurfacing and striping at 7 Mile Rd / Wing St / St. Lawrence Blvd.
- Pedestrian and bicycle safety enhancements, including reduced crossing distances, bike on/off ramps, and enhanced signage/striping.
- Accommodations for large trucks.
Project Timeline
The new roundabout is expected to open to traffic in late November 2025. Any remaining project work and site restoration will take place in spring 2026.

- Continued installation of traffic control and signage.
- Begin construction of a temporary road to maintain east- and west-bound traffic along 7 Mile Road.

- Anticipated closure of Center Street and Sheldon Road to north- and south-bound traffic beginning Tuesday, September 2.
- Center Street closed immediately south of Fairbrook.
- Sheldon Road closed immediately north of the bridge.
- Detour route for north/south traffic will be 6 Mile Road → Beck Road → 8 Mile Road.
- 7 Mile Road will remain open in both directions.
- Ongoing construction of temporary road to maintain east/west traffic on 7 Mile Road.
- Underground utility installation.
What Families Can Expect During Construction
- 7 Mile Road will remain open in both directions throughout the project to accommodate the Wayne County truck route.
- Sheldon Road and Center Street will be closed near the project area. A detour will direct north/south traffic to 6 Mile Road, Beck Road, and 8 Mile Road.
- Wing Street and St. Lawrence Boulevard will have part-time lane closures.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained using signage, temporary barricades, barrels, and ramps.
- Reduced speed limit of 25 mph will be enforced in the construction zone, with posted advisories.
- Work hours will run 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
- Northville Public Schools is coordinating with the City to adjust school bus routes during construction.
